The Work Engagement and Job Performance Relationship: Exploring the Mediating Effect of Trait Emotional Intelligence
This cross-sectional study examined the mediating effect of affect-related traits on the relationship between work engagement and job performance. Specifically, a sample of 225 students from a large state university was used to examine the effect of trait emotional intelligence (EI) on work engagement and both in-role and extra-role performance. It was found that work engagement directly impacted both in-role and extra-role performance, indicating that engaged workers are more likely to perform well both on job-related tasks (in-role performance) and also on going above and beyond what was expected of them in their job role (extra-role performance). In addition, work engagement was predictive of trait EI, indicating that engaged workers were more likely to use affect-related traits in the workplace than those less engaged. Further, trait EI was predictive of both in-role and extra-role performance, suggesting that effectively managing one\u27s emotions, exhibiting strong social skills, demonstrating self-control, and displaying a general sense of well-being (i.e., trait EI) can lead to improved performance on the job. Lastly, work engagement and both in-role and extra-role performance were partially mediated by trait EI. This study provides new information about trait EI and its effect on job-related behaviors in an applied setting
Higgs-Pair Production and Measurement of the Triscalar Coupling at LHC(8,14)
We simulate the measurement of the triscalar Higgs coupling at LHC(8,14) via
pair production of h(125 GeV). We find that the most promising hh final state
is bb gamma gamma. We account for deviations of the triscalar coupling from its
SM value and study the effects of this coupling on the hh cross-section and
distributions with cut-based and multivariate methods. Our fit to the hh
production matrix element at LHC(14) with 3 ab^-1 yields a 40% uncertainty on
this coupling in the SM and a range of 25-80% uncertainties for non-SM values.Comment: 4 pages, 7 page
Unpacking instructional alignment: The influence of teachers’ use of assessment data on instruction
The use of assessment data to inform instruction is an important component of a comprehensive standards-based assessment programme. Examining teachers’ data use for instruction can reveal the extent to which instruction is aligned with established content standards and assessment. This paper describes results of a qualitative study of teachers’ data use in a mid-Atlantic metropolitan area in the United States. Focus group interviews with 60 upper elementary and middle school teachers from 45 schools were conducted. Findings indicate teachers aligned instruction and assessments with the state curriculum with the goal of improving student performance. While teachers found day-to-day informal assessments essential to shaping instruction, periodic formal assessments helped them monitor student progress and remediation efforts. Teachers described challenges associated with the misalignment of periodic assessments with instructional content, the breadth of content and higher cognitive demand expected in the newer state curriculum and the lack of infrastructure to support data use
The Theatre That Will Be: \u27Devised Theatre\u27 Methodologies and Aesthetics in Training and Practice
This thesis details my process of teaching Devising Theatre, a course of my own design, in Spring of 2005 and Fall of 2005. I address my curricular development from semester to semester (readings, assignments, assessments) as well as the students\u27 responses to the material. Additionally, I discuss my reasons for teaching the course and the place that alternative theatre can and should have in theatre training programs and in the realization of feminist pedagogy
